Royal Parks acting to ensure spaces for Richmond Park Visitors
January 29, 2025 Royal Parks has announced that it intends to introduce a later opening time at Kingston Gate Car Park to discourage commuter parking. The step is being taken to ensure that parking spaces are available to visitors to Richmond Park as currently the free car park is being used as ‘park and ride’ facility by some people. It is just over half a mile from Norbiton train station. The relatively small car park is typically full first thing, with cars remaining in the parking bays all day, which means that parking is very limited for park visitors later in the day. Over the last few years Richmond Park has increased in popularity and there is an ever-increasing demand for visitor parking in the limited supply of car parks available. All other car parks within Richmond Park will continue to operate under the usual opening hours. “This later weekday car park opening time is intended to prioritise parking for park visitors during the day and discourage use of the facility as a free ‘park and ride’ service for commuters. Weekend parking remains unaffected. “Alternative Blue Badge parking is available at all other car parks, and the opening times for all other car parks across Richmond Park remain unchanged.”
