Eight fire engines and 58 firefighters and officers have this morning attended a fire at Queen Mary’s Hospital on Roehampton Lane, SW15.

The fire was on the first floor of a four story hospital building containing 17 bedrooms. Around half of one of the bedrooms was destroyed by the fire. Three women were rescued and they, along with another woman, were treated on the scene by the London Ambulance Service. 20 staff and patients were evacuated. 15 patients are being temporarily moved to St George’s Hospital.

Crews were called at 0017 and the fire was under control at 0112. Firefighters from Wandsworth and the surrounding area were at the scene. The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.

No arrests have been made but a Met police spokesman said the fire was being treated as arson:
"The cause of the fire is unkown at this stage and is subject to a police investigation. There has been no arrest, and nor was anyone detained by police regarding the incident, however it is expected that an 18 year old woman patient will be interviewed in due course regarding the inquiry."
