Putney Bridge was closed by police for part of Wednesday afternoon (January 22nd) after a man threatened to jump into the river.

It was closed off to traffic from 3.30pm and reopened around 4.30pm when the man was taken to hospital, though traffic delays continued into early evening.

The Metropolitan Police Service Marine Police Unit @MPSonthewater tweeted at 4pm:" Marine 3 and Chiswick RNLI just attended a call to a male threatening to jump from Putney bridge. Safely detained by MPSWandsworth."

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson confirms: "We were called at 3.30pm to a Putney Bridge. One of our ambulance crews and duty officer attended the scene. Our staff assessed one patient and took him to hospital."

And hour ago, Wandsworth Police @MPSWandsworth tweeted that the bridge was fully open again and thanked the rescue services for their help.
