Residents to get larger discount on parking within the borough

People who live in parts of the borough that have controlled parking zones will soon be able to park their cars more cheaply when they drive to other zones in the borough.

All holders of an annual Wandsworth parking permit should have received a resident discount smartcard last year. The smartcards can be used to obtain reduced parking charges at nearly 1,400 on-street pay and display machines in the borough.

The card, which incorporates the latest microchip technology, currently entitles holders to a ten pence an hour discount on every pay and display ticket they purchase.

From April 1, the discount to card holders will be doubled to 20 pence an hour. There is no limit on the number of times the cards can be used.

Between now and the end of March, the council's pay and display machines will be re-calibrated to reflect these lower charges for card holders.

Anyone with queries about how to use the discount cards can e-mail permitprocessing@wandsworth.gov.uk or telephone the Parking Helpline on (020) 8871 8871.
