The council has annnounced that the existing lamps in Putney Wharf are being fitted with better quality LED lights, which are brighter and also more energy efficient.

Their installation marks the first phase of a wider programme across Wandsworth that will see street lamps upgraded with new LED lights.

As well as using less energy and therefore offering lower running costs, the LED lights also last longer than traditional equivalents and so will deliver additional savings on maintenance and replacement costs.

Community services spokesman Cllr Jonathan Cook said:
“These eco-friendly upgrades will not only deliver better lighting for this popular area of Putney’s riverside but will also mean taxpayers will save on running and maintenance costs.
When traditional lamps on other street lights need changing we will replace them with LEDs with a view to increasing these costs savings even further while at the same time reducing our carbon footprint.”
