Thamesfield SNT warns open windows let in more than cooling air
Before you leave your doors and windows open please remember that burglars love the good weather as it makes their job so much easier. They just have to climb through the open window or walk right in through the front or back door with no need to carry bulky tools or risk injuring themselves on broken glass or wood splinters!
Never leave doors open to the street or rear garden/patio unless you are sitting in the doorway or are in sight of it and make sure that your locks meet British Standards by fitting an automatic deadlock nightlatch (BS8621.2007).
If you have sash windows make sure that you have fitted key operated sash stops to both sides of the upper window to allow a maximum opening of 5 inches.
With other types of windows to prevent entry make sure that they can be set to open no more than 5 inches.
We hope that everyone can enjoy the good weather this summer except the burglars so please help us by helping yourselves and keep them locked out -
During May 2010 there were nine reported burglaries across Thamesfield ward where entry was gained via open or unlocked doors or windows. These could have easily been prevented.
