Regular visitors to Putney Exchange may have noticed strange goings on in the vacant shop opposite Waitrose. A glimpse through the window would show the shop had now become a working art studio with a mysterious blond painting away on a blank bench shaped mysteriously like a folded book.

The blond is in fact London based Kiwi Mandii Pope who is recreating the original image created by artist Tom Adams (now 88) and Agatha Christie, for the book "Hercule Poirot and the Greenshore Folly" written by AgatMay 29, 2014

'Books about Town' Public Art project for National Literacy Trust with Wild in Art 2014. The National Literacy Trust is working with Wild in Art to bring a public art event with a difference to the streets of London in summer 2014. Up to 50 benches shaped as open books, decorated by famous illustrators and local artists, will appear for the public to enjoy.

The capital has many connections with literature and this is our chance to celebrate it. At the end of summer 2014, all the benches will be auctioned to raise funds for the National Literacy Trust.

Titles include Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland Mary Poppins and many more fabulous titles.

The National Literacy Trust is an independent charity that gives people the skills they need to succeed. The only national charity dedicated to raising literacy levels in the UK and we do this via community projects, support for schools and campaigning.

Mandii Pope - will be continuing to paint this amazing creation until the 6th of June. She will be there every evening after 6/6:30pm and weekend from now until then, pop down and say hello.
