Wandsworth Primary Care Trust Putney and Roehampton Mental Health Promotion Forum: The Mental Health Promotion Forum is a Wandsworth Primary Care Trust initiative based in the locality of Putney and Roehampton. We address Standard 1 of the National Service Framework for Mental Health - to promote positive mental health for all and combat discrimination against those with mental illness. We operate within the framework of the Merton, Sutton and Wandsworth Mental Health Promotion Strategy, which demonstrates the role of education, the work-place, the media, housing, environmental and leisure services as well as the traditional health care institutions in promoting individual and social well-being and challenging the stigma surrounding mental illness. The Mental Health Promotion Forum aims to bring together individuals from local organisations to discuss, share and initiate ideas about how to promote positive mental health and challenge stigma both within their organisation and in the community of Putney and Roehampton.
The Forum began meeting in January 2001, since then almost 50 people from various organisations have attended. The Forum has become an active and enthusiastic network, linking people and organisations and enabling the development of projects and ideas. We support local and national campaigns that aim to promote positive mental health. World Mental Health Day, the 10th October of each year, is a particular focus for us and the events and activities of the local campaign will be used a key marker for the development of mental health promotion programmes across the local community. |
