Preliminary figures gathered by town hall managers and education chiefs in Wandsworth show that almost all town hall services will be largely unaffected by the nationwide strike action tomorrow (Thursday 10th July), while most borough schools will also be open.

The nationwide strike action has been called by most of teaching and public service trade unions including the NUT, GMB, Unison and Unite.

Parents in the borough are being advised to check their school’s website this evening to get the latest picture on tomorrow’s planned industrial action by teaching unions.

The Council say that their checks this morning have revealed that 80 per cent of the borough’s 81 schools will be either fully open or partially open. That figure may rise when final announcements are made by the six schools which have not yet notified the town hall.

Only 11 of the borough’s 61 primary schools will be fully closed as a result of strike action. The primaries that have confirmed they will be closed to all pupils are The Alton, Eardley, Furzedown, High View, Hillbrook, John Burns, Penwortham, Ravenstone, Shaftesbury Park and Trinity St Mary’s, plus Balham nursery school.

Twenty four primaries will be completely unaffected while 23 others will open, but some lessons or classes may be disrupted. Confirmation from three other primary schools is still awaited.

Primary and special schools that are expected to be totally unaffected by the strike action and will be fully open as normal include All Saints CE, Belleville, Bradstow, Brandlehow, Christ Church CE Earlsfield, Gatton, Granard, Greenmead, Griffin, Heathmere, Holy Ghost RC, the Hospital & Home Tuition PRU, Honeywell Junior, Honeywell Infants, Mosaic Jewish, Oak Lodge, Our Lady of Victories, Paddock, Sacred Heart RC in Battersea, Somerset Nursery, Southmead, St Anselm’s RC, St George’s CE, St Joseph’s RC, St Mary’s RC, St Michael’s CE, Swaffield, Tooting and Wix.

At secondary level, seven of the borough’s 10 schools will be partially open. Information is still being sought from the last three remaining secondaries.

As well as checking school websites, parents who have provided mobile phone numbers to their children’s schools should also receive an SMS text message direct from schools tomorrow morning confirming the latest picture.
