Applications for secondary places for the coming academic year must be submitted to the town hall by next Monday - October 31.

This deadline affects children who were born between September 1, 2000 and August 31, 2001.

Parents of children living in the borough must either submit an application form to Wandsworth Town Hall or apply online by next Monday’s deadline. Those living elsewhere need to apply to their home borough.

Parents can apply for a place at up to six state schools in any part of London.

To help parents make up their minds and provide more details about how the transfer process works, the council has produced a detailed brochure called 'Choose a Wandsworth Secondary School'.

It contains a wealth of useful information about the borough's 11 state-funded secondary schools and their admissions criteria. It also contains details on other schools within easy travelling distance.

Copies of the brochure can be obtained by emailing admissions@wandsworth.gov.uk or by telephoning (020) 8871 7316. Staff on that number can also help with any other queries parents and carers may have.

The brochure and other helpful information about the application process can also be found at www.wandsworth.gov.uk/admissions. This is the same web address that parents and carers should use if they wish to make their application online.

All parents will be informed of the outcome of their applications at the beginning of March next year.

Cabinet member for education and children's services Cllr Kathy Tracey said:
"It is absolutely vital that parents and carers make sure they apply on time. This is an important deadline that should not be missed.  Parents who are still undecided can take a look at our helpful and informative brochure. It has been produced to help parents make the right choice for their children and contains a wealth of information about local schools as well as a step-by-step guide to the applications process.”
