Two free fitness courses for kids from 5 -13 year olds starting soon
The free MEND course includes games and swimming, nutritional advice, interactive discussions to teach easy ways to improve your child’s lifestyle and self-confidence, practical demonstrations, games, tips on healthy foods, label reading and portion sizes and a supermarket tour.
The eight-week programme is run by the council and NHS Wandsworth and is aimed at youngsters aged seven to 13. Each family must attend twice a week from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. Sessions are held at Latchmere (Battersea), Tooting and Putney leisure centre. The Latchmere course starts on January 31, the Tooting course on February 1 and the Putney course on February 8.
The Urban Energy Project is a series of fun 10-week after-school activity workshops for young people who want to be more active in order to improve their health. The sessions are delivered by qualified sports coaches.
There are sessions for five to seven year olds, eight to 12 year olds and young people aged from 13 to 16.
Activities take place once a week at the Roehampton Sport and Fitness Centre, Laverstoke Gardens and the Wandle Recreation Centre in Wandsworth. The Roehampton course starts on January 31st and the Wandsworth sessions start on February 2nd.
