A new record reached as exam results improve
Students across Wandsworth are celebrating as the borough's GCSE results improved again this year to reach a new record high. Provisional results show that the proportion of students achieving five or more A* - C grades including the core subjects of English and Maths has increased by six percentage points to reach 58.7 per cent. Some schools made particularly strong progress including John Paul II and Battersea Park where the proportion of students gaining five or more higher grade passes including English and Maths went up by 20 points. Impressive improvements were also made at Southfields (12 points), St Cecilia’s (12 points), Graveney (11 points) and Elliott (7 points). Executive member for education and children's services Kathy Tracey said: The proportion of Wandsworth students to achieve five or more A*-C grades in any subject improved by 8 points to reach 81.2 per cent. (Validated results will be available from the Department for Education in January next year.)
