MBNA Thames Clippers are to add an additional boat to the new 150-seater vessel already announced. Both boats will enter passenger service in summer 2015 as the company expands to meet rising demand from London commuters and visitors.

2014 saw MBNA Thames Clippers carry over 500,000 additional passengers, a record 3.8 million in total.

The vessels will provide additional capacity throughout MBNA Thames Clippers route network, particularly for the Putney to Blackfriars service which stops at Wandsworth Riverside and Chelsea Harbour. This route has proven very popular since being launched in April 2013.

The company says the vessels have been designed to the highest technical and safety standard. The efficient hull format will allow the boats to navigate the unique tidal condition of the routes they operate on the River Thames. Furthermore due to their very lightweight construction, they will require minimal power to meet their speed, thus further reducing the environmental impact.

The delivery of the new vessels will help to deliver the Mayor’s River Action Plan of 12 million passengers using the river by 2021.

Sean Collins, CEO said today “MBNA Thames Clippers are focused on providing the highest of standards to our customers and stakeholders, these new vessels will demonstrate that to a new level. I very much look forward to the boats entering service later this year”
