|Learn Brazilian Martial Arts|
Take advantage of free offer for February
Classes in a unique Brazilian martial art - Capoeira - are being offered in Putney & Wandsworth to give a different way of keeping fit in 2011.
Capoeira dates back 400 years during times of oppression and slavery when rival tribes began teaching each other their religion, dance, rituals and games. The slaves developed a fighting system with fast and tricky moves to help them beat potential captors.
This was the birth of Capoeira, which blends self-defence, acrobatics, music and dance. In May, the Association of Capoeira celebrates 10 years in the UK, and will be offering six weeks of free classes to mark the landmark.
This special community project will start on Tuesday February 1, with classes at various venues in South London.
In Putney classes are available on Sundays at 11am. In Wandsworth, classes are held at The Royal Academy of Dance on Thursday at 8pm as well as classes at other locations, including Battersea, Tooting and Wimbledon & Colliers Wood.
