Extra-special annual reunion in Battersea
Battersea Dogs and Cats Home is celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2010, and as part of those celebrations, the home is planning to make this year's Annual Reunion on Sunday September 12 an extra-special event. The reunion, which takes place in the Boules Area of Battersea Park from 11am till 4.40pm is a free public event, open to dogs of all descriptions, with a host of fun canine competitions and activities, including Temptation Alley, where dogs have to complete a course packed with tasty treats, Pass the Parcel and Musical Mats. This year's star guests are actress Sheridan Smith and Britain's Got Talent semi-finalists, Jackie and Tippy Toes doing their wonderful heelwork to music, while other attractions include a fancy dress competition, a funfair, celebrity judges, fun displays, dog games, refreshments, agility displays, micro-chipping and pet tag engraving. Battersea also invites people to visit the unique and special home which is only a couple of minutes' walk from the Annual Reunion and open all day. At 4pm, the day will be completed by the cutting (and eating!) of a giant 150th celebration cake. The Annual Reunion is supported by retailers Absolutely Animals, Pet London, My Itchy Dog, Barker and Walker Ltd, Useful Magnets, Dogmatic and Emily Kapff animal portrait painter as well as many others. For competitive canines, classes on offer include Handsomest Hound, Prettiest Bitch and Waggiest Tail - both Battersea and non-Battersea dogs welcome. To register your dog for a class is just £2 which goes directly to the home and you can register from 11am on the day or in advance online. September 8, 2010
