|Fortnight Left To Make School Choices|
Deadline for submitting applications for secondary places is end of month
Parents who want their children to start at a Wandsworth secondary school in September 2011 have just under a fortnight left to make their decisions and submit their application forms.
The deadline for submitting applications is the end of this month. Parents who wish to apply for a school place must do so by Sunday, October 31.
This deadline applies to parents of children who were born between September 1, 1999 and August 31, 2000.
Parents can apply to a maximum of six state schools in any part of London. Applications can be submitted online at www.wandsworth.gov.uk/admissions, by post or can be hand delivered to the town hall.
To help parents make up their minds and outline how they system works, the council has produced a detailed brochure called 'Choose a Wandsworth Secondary School'. It contains information about the borough's ten state-funded secondary schools and their admissions criteria. It also contains details on other schools within easy travelling distance.
Copies are available on the council's website at www.wandsworth.gov.uk/admissions, can be obtained by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or by telephoning (020) 8871 7316. Staff on that number can also help with any other queries parents and carers may have.
All parents will be informed of the outcome of their applications at the beginning of March next year.
Executive member for children and young people Cllr Kathy Tracey said: "It is very important that parents and carers read the admissions criteria for the schools they are interested in, to get an idea of whether their child is likely to be offered a place.
"The London-wide applications system means that wherever they live in the capital, parents can list up to six schools on a single form. These do not all have to be schools in their home borough – but it is always a good idea to include at least one that is close to home."
