On Tuesday 17 May, Wandsworth Police in partnership with Terrence Higgins Trust, Wandsworth Children Service and Battersea Early Intervention were pleased to launch the Challenging Homophobia in Schools DVD workshop ‘EVERYONE MATTERS’
The aim of the workshop was to challenge the behaviour and attitude of children within school and youth club settings towards not only young LGB (Lesbian,Gay,Bisexual) but the LGB community at large.
The workshop consisted of three scenarios where young people had been bullied, abused and assaulted because of the sexual orientation or perceived sexual orientation.
This was followed by a series of Questions and Answers discussing attitudes, stereotyping, perception, the law and religion that have an impact on the life of LGB people or people believed to be LGB.
PC John Frame LGBT Coordinator (Lesbian,Gay,Bisexual ,Transgender)
and Schools Liaison Officer said:
‘Hate crime perpetrated towards LGBT people or people perceived to be LGBT stems from fear and lack of knowledge of anyone who is different. Intolerance to someone who is LGB will not be tolerated by either the Education Authority or the Police.
