Average price level surges as buyers snap up top end homes

The SW15 post code area saw the highest monthly average price level for property sales during July.
There were 97 transactions reported to the Land Registry at an average price of £728,130. Of these 21 were deals that took place at over a million pounds, an unusually high proportion, for instance in the previous month only seven homes were sold in this price bracket.
The most expensive property sold during the month was on Dover Park Drive costing its new owners £3,500,000. This becomes the fifteenth most highest priced property ever sold in the area.
The July data from Land Registry's House Price Index shows an annual price increase of 6.3% in London taking the average property value up to £385,799. Nationally the average in England and Wales rose by 0.8% to £164,098 Repossession volumes decreased by 23 per cent in May 2013 to 1,365 compared with 1,765 in May 2012.
The most up-to-date figures available show that during May 2013, the number of completed house sales in England and Wales increased by 19% to 62,651 compared with 52,516 in May 2012. The number of properties sold in England and Wales for over £1 million in May 2013 increased by 28% to 740 from 576 in May 2012.
