Roehampton house sells for second highest price ever

Property sales in the SW15 post code area in June suggest that local property prices could be testing new highs.
During the month there were 68 properties sold at an average price of £686,789. This includes the second most expensive home ever to change hands in the area, a house in Roedean Crescent, Roehampton which cost its new owners £6,200,000.
Even if you exclude the sale of the most expensive property the average remains above £600,000 for the month which would be a record level.
10 of the properties sold during the month went for prices in excess of £1,000,000.
The June data from Land Registry's flagship House Price Index shows an annual price rise of 0.9% which takes the average property value in England and Wales to £161,777.
London remains the best performing area in the country with prices rising by 6.3% to £359,476 over the same period.
The most up-to-date figures available show that during April 2012, the number of completed house sales in England and Wales decreased by 19 per cent to 41,244 compared with 50,721 in April 2011.
The number of properties sold in England and Wales for over £1 million in April 2012 decreased by 43 per cent to 468 from 825 in April 2011.
The numbers below are subject to revision as is it usual that some properties are added late to the Land Registry's database. The latest reported sales are given in the table below.
