After a crisp walk on Wimbledon Common the idea of a warming lunch at a "country pub in London"was too much to refuse and so the three owners and their three four-legged friends set off for the underpass at Tibetts Corner and found a table near a roaring log fire.

There was a wide range of choices and sizes depending upon the appetite and culinary peculiarities ranging from the grazing boards (meat, seafood or vegetarian) which allow friends to share - the staff recommend choosing four or five items (£1.95 each) or a complete board £9. The other starters range from £4 to £6 and many are available as main courses.

Main courses were generous - even the salads - these can also be starter portions. Prices range from £9.75 for a Caesar Salad to £25 for a Posh Fish & Chips (whole lobster with lemon parsley butter, saffron mayonnaise and hand cut chips).

We restricted ourselves to a main course only - the Chicken Ceaser salad (£13), the The Telegraph fish and chips (£14) a beer battered cod with hand cut chips, mint pea puree and tartare sauce - the tartare sauce was "the best I have tasted", and a tasty of slightly tough 28 day dry aged 80z rump steak with watercress and grilled tomatoes - the chips were donated to my salad eating pal!

The home made desserts escaped us but the chocolate craving was honoured without even ordering any - as each coffee arrived with a small square of chocolate brownie!

We left happy and full with plans to return again - a summer lunch in the garden with your family & dog after or before a walk on the Heath or over on Wimbledon Common looks very attractive as the Sunday lunch menu looks pretty attractive too!
