The short-lived Swift had described itself as ‘botanically inspired’ and the ‘home of craft beer in Putney’ but the approach appears to have failed to take off.

The pub closed earlier this month and the site is to be taken over by the Five Guys burger chain.

Commenting on the closure of The Swift in Putney, a spokesperson for Fuller’s said: “Despite a change in concept, trade at the site has not met our expectations in recent years and we have therefore decided to assign our lease to Five Guys Burgers and Fries, whose style of operation we feel will better suit this particular location.”

The Swift replaced the Whistle and Flute on the site at 46-48 Putney High Street as recently as December 2013.

There are over 1,000 branches of Five Guys in the U.S. with the first being set up in Arlington, Virginia. They have been expanding rapidly in the UK recently and already have branches in Wimbledon, Ealing and Kingston. They have told us that they plan to open their Putney restaurant towards the end of September.
