In March this year JD Wetherspoon confirmed they have sold The Railway pub and today (31st August) this site understands that it will become a Revolution Bar - described on their website as offering 'More glitz, more glamour, more glorious new cocktails'. We have asked Revolution Bars to comment on the plans and timings for the site.

Members on this forum are disappointed at the closure of the Railway; "an end of era. A great pub for everyone". Concerns have also been voiced about the licensing hours that will operate under the new owners.

The Railway is on the site of the former Railway Hotel opposite the station and was built in 1886. It is popular with commuters partly because of the relatively low beer prices it offers. It was one of 33 pubs in the company’s estate of over 1,000 that was put up for sale last year.

In August of last year Wandsworth Council has removed permitted development rights from 120 of the borough's bars and taverns including the Railway. This ‘Article 4’ listing means that if the new owners wanted to use the building for any other purpose than running a pub they would have to request planning permission.
