Hotaru Restaurant Set To Close Next Month | ||||
Moving out of Putney Bridge Road at the end of its lease
A popular Japanese restaurant and takeaway has announced that it is to close permanently next month. Hotaru has been at 281 Putney Bridge Road since 2018 and built up a reputation for high quality at reasonable prices. They say they are looking for new premises to re-establish the restaurant but in the meantime, if you have purchased a voucher from them, you are advised to redeem it as soon as possible before 11 April when they will have their final day. Another local restaurant owner said, “It is sad to see what was a very well run business with people committed to good food moving out. There are many challenges facing the sector at the moment but one that the public may be less aware of is that of ‘dark kitchens’. These are set up by chains and are essentially based in industrial estates but branded as restaurants. They operate exclusively through the online delivery services like Deliveroo and Uber Eats, and although the terms offered by these companies is not great they do provide some revenue when otherwise there would be none. "If you are ordering through them do try and support your local independent restaurants. Better still, rather than using an app, call them up, they’ll be delighted to talk you through their menus and will retain much more of what you spend with them without costing you a penny more.”
