The council's executive member for environment and leisure Cllr Malcolm Grimston said: "Roehampton is the latest centre to benefit from a significant range of improvements. In the past seven years the council has invested more than £15m in improving and upgrading the borough's sports, fitness and leisure facilities.

" This level of investment shows the tremendous commitment the council has made to provide the highest quality leisure facilities for local residents. As a result our leisure centres are amongst the best used in the country with over 3.2 million visits per year, an increase of 25 per cent in the past six years.

The opening of this centre is also another example of the council’s commitment to the regeneration of Roehampton. Further major investments is planned to improve the lives and prospects of people in this part of the borough."
