The lift connecting the underground car park to the store on Werter Road has been out of action since early August and elderly customers have been seen using the road ramp with sticks and in one reported case a mobility frame to get access to the store.

One member posted on the forum: "In mitigation the staff are very helpful and will always carry bags down to the Car Park, or wait outside with the trolley while one brings the car up. However it is time-wasting and annoying as I am not too quick on stairs".

One customer told this website that he was put through to the store 'manager' and was told that the company was looking to replace the lift and costings were being made: "He said it won't be back in action 'anytime soon' as they are not looking to repair but replace it - which presumably will be some considerable time.  He added that it's gone through the costing process but has proved too expensive (negating his initial comment) but they keep bringing it to the top of the issues list. I took this up with the Twitter help team just over a week ago, having raised the problem several times in the past, after I had to push our trolley down the ramp in the pouring rain the other week".

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said, “The lift in our Putney store car park is currently out of order. We’re sorry for the inconvenience this may cause and hope to have the lift back up and running soon.” They were asked if here was a plan to replace the lift and as yet have not received an update. The spokesperson also confirmed that staff will assist customers taking shopping to their vehicles.
