Here is the information given by TfL to Richard Tracey:

* There are 228 individual buses that travel along Putney High Street as part of their routing. Of these, there are already 50 buses that are Euro 4 or 5, with the Euro 5 buses emitting 40% less NOx than an equivalent Euro 3 bus.

* In the autumn of 2012, a further 46 new Euro 5 buses will commence service. These will be made up of 36 regular Euro 5 buses, and 10 hybrid buses. These 46 new vehicles will be replacing existing vehicles, and will not be in addition to the aforementioned 228.

* Of the remaining Euro 3 buses, 85 of these will be retrofitted to reduce their NOx emissions by 70%; and pending a successful durability trial, the retrofit programme will commence towards the end of 2012 with completion by the spring of 2013.

* This means that while approximately 20% of buses that use Putney High Street meet the Euro 4 standard currently, this figure will increase to around 80% over the course of the next year. In addition to this, the 13 Euro 3 buses that are currently used on route 270 will be replaced with new Euro 5 buses in June 2013 when the contract expires. This will increase the figure further to around 85% of buses that operate along Putney High Street meeting a minimum Euro 4 standard."

Richard Tracey says, " This is more very good news that is the result of all the hard arguing and pressure by myself, the Putney Conservative councillors and Wandsworth environment officers, and Putney Society. We said we would improve the state of the High Street by our negotiations with TfL and we are delivering, but we do not intend to slacken our efforts in coming months and years."
