Roehampton residents turned out in force at their local playing Fields this Saturday, to support the last cricket match of the season but not the last match ever, thanks to the efforts of the newly formed Roehampton Playing Fields Community Trust.

The Trust represents the community surrounding the Roehampton Playing Fields and came into being when it was learned that the Fields were to be disposed of by Wandsworth BC to a commercial user. The result would have resulted in the sports field becoming unrecognisable and a blight on the neighbourhood. The fury of local people resulted in the putting together a team of professional but community minded and committed people who are now on the brink of rescuing the situation. This talented group are busy getting ready to run the fields and protect it for future generations of amateur sports enthusiasts of all ages including the local schools.

With the support of the local MP, Justine Greening and key councillors, the community is now waiting for the council to amend its original plans and get behind the Trust with its full support.

That decision is expected this autumn and it is hoped it will give Roehampton Playing Fields a bright new future.
