Putting AIDS and Disability on the agenda in Putney
Local charity VSO will host two exhibitions in Putney, raising awareness of the impact of HIV & AIDS and disability on developing nations. From November 24 to December 1 there will be a special HIV & AIDS exhibition at Putney Library. The exhibition will include photographs and collages made by those living with or affect by HIV & AIDS in Africa and Asia. To round off the week a special World AIDS Day panel discussion will be held on December 1st, at 12.30pm in Putney Library. Participants will include speakers from the Zambian Positive People's Network, VSO and the UK Coalition of People living with HIV & AIDS. To commemorate the United Nations' International Day of Disabled Persons on December 2nd VSO will be hosting 'Raised Awareness' a Braille Art Exhibition at its Putney Bridge Road offices. The drawings, from artists including Damien Hirst, are on loan from the Tate Modern and will be open from 10am - 4pm on December 2. On the day there will be an introduction to the exhibition by the Curator from the Tate Modern, a sign language workshop, talks from VSO volunteers, DVDs and stories from around the world. The exhibitions will give local people the chance to see first hand the ways in which VSO, their local international development charity, is working to combat HIV & AIDS and aid those with disabilities across the globe and what they can do to get involved. Admission to both events is free. For more information visit www.vso.org.uk/events
