Anyone eligible who wishes to vote in the by-election must make sure their name is on the electoral register before the registration deadline of midnight on Tuesday, October 24.

British citizens, along with citizens of Commonwealth countries, the Republic of Ireland, British Overseas Territories and the European Union are all eligible to vote at this election.

Anyone who is not registered should visit www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. Once your application has been received the council’s electoral services department may need to contact you to request further information, so people are being advised to apply as soon as possible.

Homes in Thamesfield ward have recently been sent Household Enquiry Forms, on which they could add the names of residents not currently registered to vote. However, any names added to the address via this form will not be added to the electoral register unless the individual has made an application by the deadline.

Anyone wishing to request a postal vote must do so by 5pm on Wednesday 25 October. This date also applies to anyone who wants to cancel an existing postal or proxy vote (the voter must provide a signed letter confirming the cancellation and stating that they no longer wish to vote by post or proxy as appropriate).

To apply for a postal or proxy vote, registered electors should visit www.wandsworth.gov.uk and type ‘vote by post’ or ‘vote by proxy’ in the search field to download an application form.

Poll cards will be delivered to all eligible voters by Royal Mail before the election takes place. These will contain information about the date and time of the poll and a map showing the location of voters’ allocated polling stations.

More information about the Thamesfield ward by-election is available at www.wandsworth.gov.uk/vote.
