FRIDAY 12 SEPTEMBER
STEVE MORRISON, AL RICHARDSON & MARK WALKER

Brooks Blues Bar regular Steve Morrison and Al Richardson never fail to impress and entertain the audience with superb technique and a passionate feel for the essence of the blues. For the first time, they are joined by ace percussionist Mark Walker, making his debut with the duo. As a guitarist and song writer Steve brings something distinct to the blues. He is a master of open-chord tunings and his bottleneck guitar technique draws the admiration of fellow musicians. The lyrics are delivered in a warm, passionate voice, reminiscent of JJ Cale, that combines with the guitar to give a powerful performance.

Steve's longtime partner, Al Richardson, is a gifted harmonica player. The sound he gets out of the tiny instrument produces an almost limitless range of dynamics. He and Steve performed some of their first gigs together as well as busking regularly to fine tune their skills and build up stamina. Al also brings a rich and powerful voice to the duo and when he wants to he'll use his harp to tear up the place and leave you spellbound. Mark Walker adds another dimension to their interpretation of the blues.  His intuitive sense of rhythm using a variety of percussive instruments blends with the music to create a richness and energy which is both exciting and enticing.Lots more information on www.bluesabuse.com

FRIDAY 14 NOVEMBER
BLUES PIANO ORGY (A BROOKS BLUES BAR EXCLUSIVE)
Three musical styles personify the energy and dynamism of the blues, as John B Harris, John Challis and Michael Ward-Bergeman celebrate piano blues.
Each have their individual approach.  John Harris plays in the style of the legendary Otis Spann, while John Challis combines raw vocals and a stomping barrel-house style.  Michael Ward-Bergeman (of The Groanbox Boys), better known for his skills on the accordion, is a mean performer on the piano.  He moves on stylistically to the time when blues began to evolve into rhythm ‘n blues and rock ‘n roll.  It’s a high-octane evening of foot-tapping rollicking piano.

This event is a Brooks Blues Bar original!  You  won’t hear anything like it in the country! More information on www.mjwb.co.uk£10

GROANBOX BOYS ( USA) 4th UK tour
The Telegraph, Telegraph Road, Putney Heath, SW15 3TU
Bringing American roots to their growing fan base are Cory Seznac (guitar/banjo/harmonica) Michael Ward-Bergman (accordion) and Paul Clifford (percussion). “There are acoustic-guitar- picking folk groups, there are accordion-pounding Gypsy troupes, there are harmonica-blowing blues combos and gourd-banjo-frailing world-music troubadours; there are even, probably, musicians who carry six-foot-high percussion sticks around with them. But -there is surely no musical partnership that brings all of the above together asbracingly as the Groanbox Boys”. - The Independent.

PAUL OSCHER ( USA) –‘ALONE WITH THE BLUES’ -(A BROOKS BLUES BAR EXCLUSIVE)
The Telegraph, Telegraph Road, Putney Heath, SW15 3TU
Brooks Blues Bar is proud to announce the booking of the legendary Paul Oscher who visits London en route to France for one exclusive appearance there. Paul Oscher is the real deal—he learned his blues from the Masters. He plays only the real, unadulterated, down-in-the-alley, gutbucket blues. He is not a retro player; he just plays the blues the way he learned them… lowdown and lonesome and has been doing so for the last forty years.

He was Muddy Waters’ harmonica player, 1967-1972 following in the footsteps of Little Walter, Junior Wells, James Cotton, and Big Walter Horton. Paul was the first white musician in the world to become a full-time member of a black blues band of this stature. He has backed up major blues artists such as John Lee Hooker, Earl Hooker, Son House, Fred McDowell, Lightning Hopkins, T. Bone Walker, Albert King, Magic Sam and Big Mama Thornton.. His "Alone with the Blues" show, featuring Paul on harmonica, bass harmonica, guitar and piano, has received rave reviews from blues fans, musicians, press, promoters and club owners.
