Already a tradition in America, Small Business Saturday first came to Britain in 2013. This Saturday sees the fourth year in UK, and local businesses expect it to be one of the busiest shopping days of the year.

The aim is to promote the benefits of shopping locally, strengthen local communities and help shops build up longer-term trade by attracting new customers.

The council’s business spokesman Cllr Kim Caddy, said:
“I would urge everyone to support the fantastic range of independent local shops on their doorstep. Local businesses are the backbone of our local economy and the heart of our communities and we can all do our bit to help them thrive.”

For every pound spent in a local independent shop or locally owned business, up to 70p benefits our local community. Whereas if you shop at an out of town centre or online, as little as 5p finds its way back.

So if every Wandsworth resident spent £5 a week in a local business, £41,550,600 would go back into the local economy!

Local companies registered for saturday can be found by entering your postcode at:
smallbusinesssaturdayuk.com/small-business-finder - some are offering special offers to customers.
