Shakespeare’s late, great masterpiece of love, freedom, treachery and forgiveness is replete with monsters, magic, music and wild comedy is being performed in Putney Old Burial Ground this weekend.

Aboard a foundering ship tossed by a violent storm the terrified passengers await their watery doom – but they will not die today.

Instead the sorcerous tempest casts them away upon the shore of the strange and remote island of the wizard, Prospero, who they once betrayed, there to discover whether their mysterious host intends revenge or reconciliation.

This Putney Theatre Company production on 14-15 July at 3pm. The Sunday performance coincides with the World Cup final. Tickets which can be bought online are £14, £10 for concessions or £8 for students and under 21s.

Putney Theatre Company productions range from large-cast plays to monologues. They stage about 12 main productions a year and their range is wide and challenging. Recent productions have included works by Chekhov, Alan Bennett, Tom Stoppard, Neil LaBute, Nick Dear and Joe Penhall, to name just a few.

They aim to produce theatre that challenges audiences, but also entertains them. They also aim to provide a friendly atmosphere, and a rehearsal process that helps actors to develop, get to know new friends and become a part of the community. The actors come from all sorts of different backgrounds, including teachers, scientists, marketeers, film producers and everything in between. They also get a large number of 'resting' professional actors who enjoy working with a theatre company that allows them to experiment and try out new things in a less pressured environment than the professional world.
