The BBC visited Putney High School Junior Department after girls secured a place in the semi finals of the Songs of Praise School Choirs of the Year 2010 Competition.

Putney's choir was selected from 140 nationwide to make it into the final six junior choirs. The BBC held a workshop and filmed a performance by the girls, aged nine  to 11 years.

This film will now be viewed by a BBC panel which will choose three junior and three senior choirs to take part in the televised final in March.

It is the second time in two years that Putney girls have sung their way to success in the competition – in 2008, they made it through to the final, finishing runners-up.

Mrs Wendy Archibald, Director of Music at Putney High School Junior Department, said:
“To be selected, we had to send in recordings of two hymns, one ‘traditional' and the other, an inspirational or gospel song. We are thrilled to have been chosen for the final six. The girls can't wait to find out whether they are going to get the chance to be on television for the final!”
