For the third year running, Granard Primary School will be holding an Art Exhibition at Putney Library from Thursday, 13th February to Friday, 28th February. The topic of the exhibition this year is ‘Our Unique Minds’.

Currently, Granard Primary School has a whole school focus on ‘metacognition’ which encourages the children to think about their learning. They incorporated this into their Art Week during the week of the 13th January, as they wanted the children to think about their mind and encourage their self-awareness. All children in the school, from Nursery up to Year 6, took part.

It is evident that artists have been painting what is happening in their minds and thoughts for many years. The children have looked at three key artists who have done this: Salvador Dali, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Martin O’Neill and took inspiration from their work.

To create their artwork, all the children had a black and white picture taken of themselves which they then used for their sketch and final piece. When creating their final piece, the children were encouraged to think about:

- their favourite people
- any questions they have about themselves
- their home
- favourite subjects
- special items or objects
- their interests
- adjectives to describe them (positive or negative)
- their skills and any skills they need to work on

The teachers and pupils hope that you are able to visit the library to see the children’s fantastic art work and enjoy the exhibition.
