The Putney Labour party have yet to make an announcement on their candidate to take on Justine Greening in the upcoming general election.

PutneySW15.com has been shown a list of the prospective candidates for constituencies across London on which Dr Neeraj Patil was named as standing for the Putney seat. When we asked the Labour Party locally to confirm that he was to represent them they were unable to do so but said they would get back to us when the candidate was decided upon which they told us would happen on Wednesday evening (3 May).

Since then no statement has been made by the party and we have not heard any further from them despite making a follow up request. The candidates’ list for the General Election closes on 11 May.

Dr Patil is a consultant in Accident and Emergency Medicine who has served has Mayor of Lambeth after being elected as a Councillor in that borough in 2006. He was also on the Labour party shortlist to run for Mayor in 2015 losing out on the nomination to Sadiq Khan.

He conducted a successful campaign to get a statue of the 12th century philosopher and founder of Indian Democracy, Lord Basavanna installed at the Albert Embankment Gardens looking across to the Houses of Parliament.

Justine Greening will be defending the seat against other candidates including Ryan Mercer for the Liberal Democrats and Ben Fletcher for the Greens.
