With residents coming out to support the businesses and join in the festive fun

New to Putney this year, it was a lovely community event. Local residents came out to support the businesses and join in the festive fun and .Putney’s new local MP Fleur Anderson came along showing her support.
Families were spoilt for choice with activities. Children were encouraged to find the gingerbread men in shop windows ending with decorating a gingerbread biscuit at Bakehouse bakery. In Pitter Potter, babies were having their footprints painted onto baubles, and plates as last minute Christmas gifts for grandparents. Mailbox provided letters for children to write their letters to Santa. Children could also make bead bracelets or wreaths, or have their face painted all for a donation to St Christopher’s Charity which raised over £100. This money will be used to ensure that children in care have a Christmas to remember.
Most businesses were offering festive treats or tasters, with the mulled wine at Glug going down very well. The tombola at Wandsworth Oasis had a queue of people hoping to win.
Nicola Grant, Executive Director of Positively Putney Business Improvement District (BID) was thrilled to see the community coming together in this way, “It was so lovely working with all the businesses who had the common aim of providing a nice day out for local residents. Always loyal, the residents came out and enjoyed themselves. I am already thinking about how we could do something similar in the Summer.”

Positively Putney will always support and celebrate the importance of local independent businesses. This event did just that! Research shows that just £10 spent with a local independent shop means £50 back into the local economy. Everyone who joined us on Sunday indirectly made a big impact on their local community without it costing much.
