|Regenerate-RISE Acquires the Platt Centre|
Putney-based charity supporting elderly and isolated strikes deal with owner
Regenerate-RISE, the charity that supports the elderly and isolated, has become the owner of the Platt Christian Centre, after more than a decade as a tenant.
The building had belonged to another charity, Livability, which in April this year, decided that they were going to sell the centre, located on Felsham Road in West Putney.
Regenerate-RISE saw this could be an opportunity to purchase the site and increase the services offered to include building a 10 bed Reablement Unit for older people on discharge from hospital.
Originally the price asked by Livability was deemed to be too high but an agreement now appears to have been reached. Regenerate-RISE had been prepared to pay £600,000 and launched a series of fundraising initiatives to raise money after Livability had asked for an extra £30,000.
The Platt Mission was built in 1807 and has provided a Church and Social Action Centre ever since. In 1963 approximately the Council compulsory purchased the land where it stood and handed over the site that the Platt Christian Centre is now on. A one story building was erected and the Mission continued.
On 30 November 1988 the Trustees of the Platt Mission asked the Shaftesbury Society to become a joint Trustee with them and in 1992 a new building which is now the Platt Christian Centre was erected with two flats above for keyworkers in the project.
Regenerate-RISE was formed as a separate charity in 2006 after having set up in the building in 2005.

I am thrilled that in such trying times, they have been able to take up full ownership and continue to serve the community.’
Chair of Livability Kate Clare says: ‘Regenerate-RISE provides an excellent service to the community. It has been our hope that they would be able to raise funds to purchase the building and I am delighted that this has proven to be the case.’
