Local Putney councillors Steffi Sutters, John Locker and Rosemary Torrington joined the Putney Tidy Towpath team to pick litter on the towpath on Saturday (27th October). After a couple of hours several sacks of sweet wrappers, cans, plastic bottles and caps, cups, earbuds and even a real coconut shell were collected.

Rosemary Torrington said: "Everyone really appreciates the time volunteers put into clearing up litter. It's a big worry to think of microplastics entering the food chain having been consumed by fish in the Thames. The Council is pleased to be funding the Hubbub campaign #FFSLDN with The Port of London Authority and Positively Putney to draw attention to this problem on our door stop and encourage people to dispose of plastic waste responsibly."

Putney Tidy Towpath meet twice a month and welcome volunteers, their next tidy up is on Thursday 8th November from 10am - 12 noon. If you would like to join in please email putneytt@outlook.com. Can't do weekdays - no problem there is a weekend tidy up on November 25th November from 10.30 am- 12.30pm.
