Council confirms Putney Bridge floodlights will be reinstalled

A spokesperson for the Council has confirmed today that there was "willingness and the money to install lighting on Putney Bridge".

Residents have been asking for the lights to be reinstated over the past seven years, but there have been no funds available, however this website can confirm that the money has been allocated from NCIL budgets, which is cash received from housing developers to fund improvements for the local community.

On 5 June 2016 Mayor Jim Maddan, who is also a Councillor for Thamesfield posted on the forum, 'The problem has always been the cost of maintaining them. The technological advances in LED lighting has made that less of an issue. We now believe that we have secured sufficient funding to allow Putney Bridge to be illuminated later this year and that the maintenance costs will be kept to a minimum. More information when we have it'.

The spokesperson for the Council advised that they are 'about to launch tenders for this work and hope to have lights installed on both Putney and Wandsworth bridges as soon as we can.'

In response to this news, a delighted forum member and local resident Vic Condon told PutneySW15.com, 'After all these years with a drab unlit landmark, this will brighten up Putney (& Fulham's) riverside no end! The council should have a Switching on Ceremony as they did "way back" - with the original lights.'
