The wild claim by Prue Whyte that somehow a small group is plotting to “bring down” the Wimbledon and Putney Commons Conservators is challenged today one of the founders of the Friends of Putney Common (FofPC), who have been fighting to reform the charity for many years and are probably the group she has in mind. FofPC completely denies the fatuous accusation.

The WPCC is currently being investigated by the Charity Commission for misconduct and maladministration, and under Ms Whyte’s tenure has lost over £500,000 in the last two years, while spending a fortune on lawyers’ fees to cover up the losses at Putney Common. At the same time they have excluded elected Conservator John Cameron, who has done so much to bring the serious breaches of charity law and resulting failures to the attention of the 65,000 levy payers in Putney, Merton and Kingston as well as acting as Whistleblower to the Charity Commission.

The soon to be ex-Chairman and her friends on the existing board will be called to account when the Charity Commission reports next year. Her nonsense about mythical plots to damage the charity are a last ditch attempt to blacken the name of the very Putney residents and Trustees who have pointed out the repeated failings of the board to stop the waste of public money and the commercialisation of the Commons we all want protected. She should be ashamed of herself and resign immediately, not waiting until the February election.
