On March 9th Phil Thorne and his team's thoughts were of going home at the end of a long day preparing wedding stationery, when they had a surprise at their door - an octogenarian driver and her car.

The driver has found her shoelace had got stuck around the accelerator and she could not stop the car - the Lower Richmond Rd was busy with early evening traffic and pedestrians, rather than swerve into other cars or cyclists on the road she mounted the pavement and missing the lamppost came to a halt along the front of Putney Printing.

The impact as the car 'bounced' along the shop front led to all the wooden framework and brickwork below the frames having to be replaced although amazingly all but one pane of glass remained in tact.

Yesterday (29th June) the work was completed at a cost of over £8000 keeping in style with the street - Phil said:"We're very pleased that the new windows keep the original wood look and feel whilst also having modern energy saving glass."

This is the second accident this year on this stretch of the Lower Richmond Rd, a car pulled out of Weiss Road and ended up turning 180 degrees out side the American Nails shop next door to Putney Printing.
