Putney leisure centre will learn on Wednesday night whether it has been voted the best swimming pool in London. The popular venue has made the final short list following a survey of all London's 104 pools.

Cabinet member for environment Kathy Tracey said, "Wednesday night will be like a cup final for Wandsworth. Win or lose we know that the judges have rated our swimming facilities among the very best in London."

And Wandsworth, which provides three more indoor pools and one outdoor pool for its residents is one of three councils competing for the top borough award.

The Golden Goggles award for the best pool will be presented by Duncan Goodhew on Wednesday 25th May at 6.30pm in Marshall Street Baths in Soho.

Putney is up against East Ham Baths, Newham and Pools on the Park, Richmond for the top honour.

In the boroughs' trophy Wandsworth is in a race to the finish with Newham and Westminster.

Last year Putney was voted the best public leisure facility in the capital in the annual Time Out magazine awards.
