Inspector Dan Tanner from British Transport Police told Wandsworth Borough councillors at last night's meeting of the passenger transport liaison group (March 11) that most problems occurred during school holidays.

He said that police operations on the line were now being run from Hammersmith and would enable more officers to patrol the line.

Committee chairman Jane Cooper welcomed the improved security measures for passengers using the Wimbledon branch of the line:

"People who use this line expect to be able to do so in safety. They want to see tough action against anti-social activities like 'steaming' and greater police presence on the trains. I have asked for a transport police representative at all our meetings. Councillors will want to make sure that improved security remains a top priority for the rail authorities."

British Transport Police have agreed to send officers to future meetings of the group to report on progress.
