Flying Squad Officer Injured In Shooting Accident

The officer was injured when his police-issue firearm discharged at about 09:00 GMT on Monday. Scotland Yard said the officer was on his own when the incident happened and he is now stable in hospital.

An investigation into the shooting is currently under way involving the Directorate of Professional Standards and the Met's Health and Safety team.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission has also been informed, as is standard procedure.

The Met has not confirmed the resulting injury , but crime correspondent at the Daily Mail, Chris Greenwood @CrimeReporter tweated today:
"Met specialist firearms officer in hospital after shooting himself in the leg at Putney armoury".

The Met's flying squad investigates armed robberies and organised crime.
