Delilah Dowd, a Year 6 student at Putney High School, is one of the winners of this year’s Screen Your Story competition.

This follows her success in the GDST Creative Writing Competition which she won in 2016.

Delilah’s ‘The Diary of Eliza Leonard’ impressed the panel of celebrity judges comprising of Michael Morpurgo, Jane Horrocks and Sir Tim Rice to name just a few.

This year’s theme was Scream Your Story and Delilah’s tale took the form of a mysterious diary in the attic of an old home with a powerful effect on the eponymous Eliza.

The story will be published in the annual Stories from the Young anthology and Delilah will have the opportunity to bring her story to life by reading it at the Barnes Children’s Literature Festival on Saturday 13 May.

Delilah will receive an award for her achievement at the Screen Your Story Gala which will be hosted by Alistair McGowan at the Olympic Cinema in Barnes. The award will be presented by Jack Whitehall and Patricia Hodge who also judged the competition. Alongside her award, Delilah will receive a copy of the anthology with her story fully illustrated.

Delilah says she has enjoyed creating stories for fun since being introduced to writing by her mother, Victoria Dowd, who wrote The Painter of Siena.
