Relief is being provided for beleaguered Putney and Roehmapton residents due to more supplies of houmous being made available at the Paddock School Café this Wednesday (26 April).

The dip crisis developed when Sainsbury’s removed all houmous related products from their shelves due to what they described as a production issue. Customers had reported that the houmous they had bought had tasted like plastic and was ‘fizzy.’

'Tonight thank God it's them instead of you'

A spokesman for the supermarket chain said: 'We've temporarily removed a number of houmous lines from sale due to a production issue at our supplier.”

Although Sainsbury’s have said they hope to restock shelves by the end of this week people have had to go 48 hours or more without being able to lay their hands on the chickpea based dip. There are unconfirmed reports of people resorting to taramasalata as a substitute in desperation.

The effects of the disaster are being lessened by the efforts of the people at Paddock School Café. Their spokesperson said, “Once again your favourite local café Paddock School Café can put a smile back on your face. We make our own hummus and it is great. No 'taste issues' there at all.”

The Café open is open today, Wednesday 10am-12pm for coffee, cakes, toast and crumpets and Thursday 10am-2p, for lunches. They offer home-made houmous with pitta bread and salad, choice of two soups or a tasty sandwich.
