Lacy Road Olympic Street Party
Watch the Olympic Cycling Road Races from Putney's party
You don’t need a ticket to join in all the fun of the first event of the Olympics – the Olympic Cycling Road Races on July 28th and 29th. Front row places are free for all in Putney where you can cheer on our gold medal hopefuls, watch the world’s top cyclists go through the High Street twice and still be entertained in-between.
It will be a weekend event of food, music and fun all designed to keep your whole family entertained while the races head off into the Surrey Hills. Radio Jackie will provide the festival atmosphere with daily competitions including a “Best Inspired Olympic Outfit” for children under the age of 11 years. Other activities for younger ones on the day will include a bouncy castle, a Giant Jenga as well as a Giant Connect 4, a football target practice, a balloon modeller, magician and face painter.
Trend loving race-goers looking for fashion inspiration can view our Best of British Fashion Show inside The Exchange Shopping Centre with Autumn Collection previews from the likes of Fat Face, Gap and Gap Kids, Huttons, JoJo Maman Bebe, Monsoon, Accessorize, Next, Office and Phase Eight. The shows will take place every 45 minutes from 11.00am until 3.15pm.
Special attractions inside the Lacy Road Marquee include the Wattbike which was created with British Cycling to provide an affordable indoor bike for training and testing. Suitable for everyone from school children to Olympic Gold Medallists, it can accurately measure in seconds your power output, pedalling technique and heart rate. So come and see if you’re the next Mark Cavendish!
For those wanting to embrace our summer of celebration, there will also be an Olympic ‘Pop Up Shop’ where you can stock up on official Olympic merchandise. And if you can’t bear to miss a moment of the racing action, head to the Lacy Road Marquee where you can watch every minute live on a giant flatscreen TV.
Funds raised over the weekend at the Street Party will go to The Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability - a national medical charity (RHND no: 205907) which cares for some of the UK’s most disabled people. Says Director of Fundraising, Sarah Myers Cornaby; “We at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability are thrilled to have been chosen as the benefiting charity of this event, which we know will be a great weekend celebrating Putney’s part in the Olympics. As Putney’s own charity, caring for people with profound brain injuries, we are always excited to meet local residents and spread the word about what we do; we also have to raise over £2million each year to continue being able to fund our work, and this of course means every penny raised during the weekend will be very gratefully received. We hope you have fun!”
The Lacy Road 2012 Street Party is being generously sponsored by The Exchange Shopping Centre, Workman LLP, Savills July 20, 2012ose, Gidden Place, The Retail People, The Flowersmith, Photo-Me, Eddie Catz & Token Yard Club. Generous contributions have also been made by various tenants inside the Shopping Centre and the businesses on Lacy Road.
With a weekend dedicated to all things British, be sure to come along and soak up the festival atmosphere as well as show your support for Team GB.
