Putney Marine Volunteer Service Unit (MVS) attended the annual Army v Navy rugby match at Twickenham stadium on the 4th of May 2019, with Phil Collins, George Mellett and Duncan Thomsen in attendance.

Armed with cash-cans, a new PDQ to take contactless payments and an A3 poster to explain easily what they do, they mustered at midday and found a good place to stand and be in the flow of the crowd.

A spokesperson said: "We had an enormous amount of fun encouraging the Navy and the Army with banter and telling the crowd what we do and why we need donations. The crowd were great fun and very generous with their spare cash, donating a total of £539.06. We would like to extend our gratitude to all those who donated, thank you."

Putney MVS is the only boat-training charity operating in the Greater London area, offering seamanship and water safety skills to the adult public. Since 2015, Putney MVS has been building infrastructure for a shore-based training unit.

Supporting members and preparing to provide water-based training, safely and competently. The goal is to raise £150,000 to purchase training and safety boats for the Putney MVS unit. The boats will be used and serviced by unit members and be available to all adults of all backgrounds in the surrounding boroughs who join the MVS.
