Putney councillor to be next Mayor of Wandsworth

as Cllr Diana Whittingham is proposed

The Mayor Making ceremony will take place on May 19 following the Annual Council Meeting on May 18 her deputy will be Cllr Del Hosain from Tooting.

Cllr Whittingham has represented East Putney for the Conservatives since 1986. She is currently chairman of the standards committee and has previously served as deputy chairman of the planning applications committee.

It will be Cllr Whittingham's second term as Mayor, having first served in this capacity from 1996 to 1997.

Away from the council Cllr Whittingham is a non-executive director at Kingston Hospital and a board member of the Royal Hospital for Neurodisability. She is also a governor at The Alton School and South Thames College and a member of the Criminal Injuries Compensation Appeals Panel.

In her professional life Cllr Whittingham was an expert in employment law, a Civil Service Commissioner and Personnel Director of the British Red Cross.

Tooting councillor Del Hosain has represented Graveney Ward for the Labour Party since 1990 with a break between 1994 and 1998. A former teacher, he currently sits on the regeneration and transport overview and scrutiny committee and is a member of the Tooting and Balham Town Centre Partnership Boards.


Cllr Hosain has been a trustee for both Age Concern Wandsworth and Wandsworth Community Transport and is involved with a number of other charities dedicated to children and the disabled in the capital.
