Putney campaigner Lisa Smart has welcomed an 11th hour move by Wandsworth Conservatives to ‘look again’ at their plans to charge children to use a local park.

Lisa said “It’s great the Conservatives are finally starting to listen to local people but the fight to ‘Keep Putney’s Parks Free’ is far from over.

“The Conservatives themselves have said that they will return to this issue after tomorrow’s election in Thamesfield.

“I’m really proud at the way local people have come together to put pressure on the Council on this issue. So many people have told me that it’s a point of principle – making local kids pay to play just isn’t on.

“The campaign to Keep Putney’s Parks Free will not be over until the Conservatives stop charging children to use the adventure playground in Battersea Park and rule out once and for all ever introducing charges for using parks in Putney.”
